Claire Bidwell Smith - Claire is the award winning author of two books of nonfiction: The Rules of Inheritance and After This: When Life is Over Where Do We Go? Claire returns to Write with her lessons on the craft of Memoir and the process of publication.
Joy Prouty - One Image, One Thousand Words. Visual Artist and writer Joy Prouty of Wildflowers Photography travels the country documenting people in profound ways. Her images tell stories like no other. Joy will lead participants on narrative storylines within imagery and bridge the gap between scenes and storyline as she shares her craft and artistic process.
Kate Lebo - What We Talk About When We Talk About Food Writing What food writing is, exactly, is not always clear. It can be journalism, editorial, personal essay, recipe, poetry, fiction, memoir, a grocery list, and more. In this workshop we’ll sample a wide range of literary food writing, probe the genre’s clichés and explore its possibilities, and get a better grip on all the ways writers let their stomachs guide them into meaningful, exciting work.
Sam Ligon - FLASH FICTION: THE ANNIHILATING FORM : Joyce Carol Oates writes that "very short fictions are nearly always experimental, reminiscent of Frost's definition of a poem - a structure of wordsthat consumes itself as it unfolds." Flash Fictions tend to rely on surprise, a hard turn at the end, and are often elliptical or fragmented, shaped by tone and shadow. In this class, writers will explore compression, limitation, line pressure, and narrative restriction in very short stories.
Mikey Gervais & Faustine Hudson - Living My Truth: FALCO; Finding Intentional Alignment Within the Artistic World. Mikey Gervais and Faustine Hudson will lead a workshop on music and songwriting, while discussing authentic artistic intention. They will also share their experience on their work as Musician Exchange Artists in Uganda, while discussing Faustine's work through her successful "Operation Menstration," a program that not only gives young women access to necessary supplies and information, but allows them to make regular school attendance.
